Many plugins default to a folder inside a 'Steinberg' folder (like 'Program Files Steinberg VstPlugins'), while Waves installs directly under Program Files (like 'Program Files VstPlugins'), so 9 out of 10 the user has to use custom folder or move the dll file to use Waves plugins. I had the same problem and renamed the whole VST-Root-Folder. Then I could load the project again and I knew that the crash was caused by a VST-Plugin. In the next step I renamed the VST-Folder back to the original name and then renamed some of the vst-dlls to.dlx. So Ableton will not load them. I found the bad VST but it was a long Iteration! The actual plugin itself (.dll file you would have downloaded somewhere, or the installer would have put in a folder somewhere) needs to go into the VST folder of your choosing and then Ableton needs to be pointing towards that folder so that it will scan it. Mac OS

1. Click on Live in the main menu and select Preferences
2. Select the File Folder tab and make sure Audio Units are enabled, click to Rescan if the Audio Unit list is not automatically updated. If you are using the VST-version, make sure that the VST path is set to your VST folder, and that you have enabled VST2.
3. Close the Preferences window, your XLN Audio plug-ins will now be available in the plug-ins list in the top left.
4. Double click or drag the desired plug-in into Ableton Live.

1. Open up the XLN Audio Online Installer and click on the Advanced button in the top section.
